goalkeeper tips and advice?
I keep breaking and dislocating fingers whilst playing football as a goalkeeper. is this down to technique or down to the gloves i am wearing having no finger protection? i am currently wearing selsport ghost gloves, has anybody got any advise please?
i used to be a keeper for a team, so i guess i can help.
Im guessing the breaks are coming from your fingers being bent back from the ball hitting them. If the ball is hit hard enough, it can easily break your bones. Mind you, you may have genetically weak bones, but that shouldnt be too much of a problem.
My first piece of advice would to buy “fingersavers”. If you have not heard of them, they are a type of glove that, basically, doesn’t let the fingers bend back. Cheap pairs are fine to use, in my honest opinion it makes no difference with the price.
(type “fingersave football gloves” into google images to see what i mean.)
My second piece of advise – if no 1 does not work – is to simply punch the ball instead of spreading out your fingers. It makes you less effective, but it may stop you from breaking your fingers.
Hope i’ve helped a little, keep up being a goalie, you may regret leaving a team if you ever do
